 Heating your pool just enough to keep it from freezing is very hard on a gas heater. When water temperatures are below 68 degrees, the exhaust condensates terribly. This condensation damages the heater materials and parts. Above 68 degrees, the condensations lessens considerably. So if you are going to heat the pool, get the water above 68 degrees, and keep it there.
